Is EDM music dying? The short answer is no, but some people might be wishing it was. After all, EDM (Electronic Dance Music) has been around for decades and it’s hard to escape the relentless beat of electronic music at festivals, clubs, and even grocery stores. But some may argue that the genre has peaked and is on its way out.
Let’s take a look at the numbers. According to a report by the International Music Summit, EDM generated $7.4 billion in revenue in 2018, with a projected growth of 3.5% for the next year. This is hardly the picture of a dying genre. In fact, it’s more like a genre that’s comfortably sitting on a pile of cash and showing no signs of slowing down.
Let’s consider the DJs. The biggest names in EDM are still packing stadiums and earning millions of dollars a year. The likes of Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and Tiesto continue to dominate the charts and sell out shows worldwide. These guys are making more money than most small countries, and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down.
Let’s take a look at the festivals. EDM festivals are a staple of the summer and they’re getting bigger and more popular every year. From Ultra Music Festival in Miami to Tomorrowland in Belgium, these events are drawing in millions of fans from around the world. And let’s not forget the endless sea of neon-clad ravers, who never seem to tire of fist pumping and jumping to the beat.
So, is EDM music dying? No, it’s not. It’s alive and well and making more money than ever before. But here’s the thing, even if it was dying, it’s not like it would be the end of the world. After all, music is constantly evolving, and new genres and artists are always emerging. Maybe EDM is on its way out, but that just means there’s something new and exciting waiting in the wings. There will always be new genres and new artists emerging, and that’s something to look forward to. So, keep dancing to the beat of EDM, but don’t be afraid to branch out and discover new music. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite genre.
