The sensational, Grammy Award-nominated duo, Silk Sonic, has an exclusive Las Vegas residency that beings tomorrow and run through the end of May.
The new residency comes with much anticipation as fans have been begging for more Silk Sonic ever since their critically acclaimed album “An Evening with Silk Sonic” drummed up intrigue last November. The duo comprises of multi-talents artists and chart-toppers Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Of course, most know the two for their solo musical ventures, but seeing them pair up in a dynamic, sexy, and funky duo generates excitement and curiosity about how the group Silk Sonic came to be.
They first performed as a group at the 63rd Grammy Awards, and have since been nominated for seven awards, winning BET’s Best Group of 2021. This project came to be back in 2017, when .Paak and Mars grew close over Mars’ “24K Magic” tour. The two continued to vibe with each other until taking their jam sessions to the next level. “That’s what it was, it snowballed. It was like well, wanna come back tomorrow? We kept coming up with music and it felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. Jamming with your buddy, there’s no plan. Just working out the parts and trying to excite each other,” said Mars in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
Mars adds that “[this] was a series of events that led us to, ‘Man, why don’t we just do it?’ Starting with the tour, us creating a friendship and a bond and talking to each other and sharing the same love for music, getting into the studio, quarantine. All of these things were the equation to get this album.”
Weaving through funk to R&B, Motown, and pop – Silk Sonic is a medley of complimentary elements and smoothly fused together genres. Once the pair released their successful single “Leave the Door Open” in March 2021, their fanbase has unsurprisingly continued to multiply. Watch any Sonic music video and you’ll undoubtedly feel the intoxicating rhythm as well as notice their powerful chemistry latent in dazzling velvet and gold.
Their debut album is punchy right from the intro as each song seamlessly moves to the next, featuring legendary funk pioneer Bootsy Collins as “host” of the performance. Since their project is already centered around a concert-themed experience, there is no doubt the Vegas residency will be a well-orchestrated spectacular with audience interaction, dancing, costume, and contagious harmonies.
Mars and .Paak clearly promote each other’s artistic freedom, which makes for an exhilarating collaboration by which fans are drawn into their personal groove session. From their vocals, raw instrumentation, dance, and clothing, Silk Sonic evokes authentic and retro nostalgia, bringing past and current generations together through music.
